Golf in the Wild
There seems to be an eternal search for new and exciting locations to play the game of golf. Many people across the globe relish the sport in association with travel and, therefore, new golf courses are springing up all the time in even the smallest nations in the world. One exotic location that has been expanding its golf resorts in the past years is Costa Rica, the tiny rainforest country in Central America that is also quickly becoming more and more of a popular travel destination, in which there is no doubt that the game of golf has played a part.
The number one golf company in Costa Rica is known as Costa Rica Golf Adventures, and they advertise their services as "Golf on the Wild Side". It's an output that has seen a potential rise and grown quickly since the turn of the millennium. It was at this time that Costa Rica began to embark on its evolution into a major golfing location for wayward putters traveling the globe. During this prepubescent Costa Rican golf period, the company sported three 18-hole golf courses, while now their collection has expanded to include new courses such as the one offered by the Marriot, one of the relatively recent additions to major hotels in the region.
While there are numerous nine-hole golf courses in the country, it's really the larger 18-hole courses that draw visitors from around the world. They are unique, diverse, and located in a lush and vibrant country, which gives travelers many reasons to stop by for a game of golf. La Playa Conchal is one of the popular Costa Rican golf resorts. It is one of the few great ones that sport 18 holes and offer many exciting games to play. The course, known as Garra de Leon (Lion's Paw), was designed by Robert Trent Jones II, a relatively popular course designer. Twenty miles away is another incredible golf resort, Rancho las Colinas Golf and Country Club. This is for people who enjoy a more rustic game of golf, as the course travels through the hills and brush of the Tamrindo region of the country.
Tamarindo is one of the choices you can take when flying into the country. The other major airports are located in San Jose, the capital, and Liberia. All of the airports are located within 45 minutes to an hour away from local golf courses. Whichever destination you choose to land in, know that you will not need to travel far to get to your hotel and then play a great game of golf.
As more tourists continue to flock to Costa Rica, more and more golf courses are sure to be built, and as there will soon be a great many choices of courses, more original and unique course designs will begin to spring up. Certainly, Costa Rica is an attractive spot to vacation and golf, so don't forget about it the next time you decide to visit this gorgeous country.
