Surf's Up! Surfing in Costa Rica
Some of the best surfing in Central America can be found off the coast of Costa Rica. Surfers from all over the world who enjoy surfing along different beaches will love the waves they can find here. If you are looking for a fun and interesting place to surf, check out Costa Rica's many hot surfing spots.
Why are Costa Rica's coastlines perfect for surfing? Well, they offer a variety of challenges. If you are a surfer who simply likes regular waves, the exciting coasts of Costa Rica are not for you. River mouths, lefts and rights, beach breaks, and reefs make the surfing in Costa Rica amazing. You can also surf here year round-there is no real winter in Costa Rica. Instead, they simply have a rainy season and a dry season. However, even during the rainy season, you won't be stuck inside. During the rainy season it rarely rains all day. There is an average of 4-5 hours of sunshine during the rainy season. The weather is usually beautiful! On top of it all, the water off the coast of Costa Rica is warm and crystal clear.
The waves of the coast of Costa Rica may be warm, but they are not as high as the monumental legendary waves off the coast of Hawaii. However, the waves in Costa Rica are extremely long. Can you stay standing for a wave that is over a kilometer long? Try it out in Costa Rica.
In Costa Rica, you'll also be able to surf in seclusion if you wish. Because there are so many beaches on both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, you can simply take your pick. If you want to surf without dealing with families, swimmers, or millions of other surfers, scope out a beach that is more difficult to reach. The hike to the beach alone can be a workout!
Most major airlines will accept a surfboard as a piece of luggage. However, some in Costa Rica do not and others have size limits. Perhaps you are too worried about a surfboard to bring it with you on an airplane and put it in with the other luggage. Don't worry-in Costa Rica, you can buy an inexpensive board at the beach and ride the waves during your entire vacation. At the end of your trip, simply take the surfboard into the city and sell it, making almost all of your money back. There's really no reason not to check out the waves in this fabulous paradise!
